October is Children’s Week: a national event just for children!
Here in WA, the celebrations are as big as our state. Every community is invited to get into the spirit of the festivities to celebrate, play and discover together. Children’s Week takes place across a week-long program of events, held around the fourth Wednesday of October every year.
Children’s Week is an opportunity for the community to engage in a variety of family-friendly activities that facilitate, support and encourage children and their families to play, learn and grow together.

Children’s Week is a week dedicated to celebrating children, promoting the Rights of the Child as proclaimed by the United Nations in 1954 and to remind us of our responsibility to advocate for children as citizens and their right to a positive childhood. Meerilinga has been the proud convener of Children’s Week in Western Australia since 1985, the first year it was celebrated in Australia. We have been delighted to contribute to the increased understanding and recognition of the Rights of the Child.
The annual Family Fun Day, to be held this year on Sunday, October 22, regularly attracts over 10,000 fun lovers. With everything from live music to food stalls and even a cuddly animal farm, this event is completely FREE. Children’s Week also features over 75 smaller free child-focused activities (running from October 21 – 29, 2023) across metropolitan Perth and rural and regional WA!
